Good News on my Test Results!!

I have found out the results of my Week 12 blood tests if - there is no virus detectable in my blood!! (from the HCV PCR quantitative and qualitative test - as no virus was there to test, a viral load test was not done)

This is great news and really makes me feel there is every chance I will go on to completely eradicate the virus! My genotype is the most resistant to treatment(genotype 1A) and my age is a factor (younger people tend to do better on treatment) but nonetheless I am a ‘responder’ to the treatment.

Now, it’s “just” 36 weeks (well, 35 more injections) to make sure - and the 3 month and 6 month post treatment tests (showing no virus detectable) to go! And it all feels “do-able” now! (I am writing this down so that I can refer back to it in future - if I have one of those days when I can’t quite remember it is possible to eradicate this virus!!)

Congratulations Ron, fantastic news!It must be a real motivator to know that you are responding to treatment.
I finally started treatment yesterday taking my first shot at 9pm.( Pegasys + 800 mg Ribivirin)I injected myself at home with the careful assistance of my wife but I was awake for most of the night waiting for the flu-like symptoms, but nothing came. I´ve felt tired and exhausted all day due to the lack of sleep, but i really am pleased that i had no bad side effects - hope it stays that way?I am taking part in a study at the klinik, which means giving more blood samples than usual, which are used for research. Anyway bye for now, Eddie (Germany)

Ron writes: Hi Eddie - I am pleased you got through your first injection without the flu-like symptoms - it’s a weird experience ‘waiting’ to see what is going to happen, isn’t it? And congratulations on making the start! I am now beginning to think that this is one of the hardest parts to treatment. It can be reassuring to know while you are contributing to research you are also getting additonal monitoring! All the best and keep in touch Ron

    Ron,

I am so pleased for you, you must be chuffed to buggery about that news. You can’t have a bottle of champagne to celebrate but maybe an extra Danish pastry. 36 weeks will seem like a long time, but I know that it felt a little easier for me when I got my undetectable.

The signs are good and you have leapt the first hurdle.

    Jonathan

Ron writes: Thanks Jonathan - it does feel like clearing a first hurdle in a long race - I suppose there is something now about pacing myself to get to the finish line in ‘win’ mode! Ron

  3. Paul Says:

    Terrific news, Ron.
Now just settle back and finish the course.
Always keep in mind that you have already won!!

Ron writes: Thanks for that Paul. Hope your treatment is going well too! Ron

    Hi Ron

Great news not only for you but also for Carol and the boys who must be relieved. Now then Ron, promise me that you will repeat the following daily “every day in every way I am going to get betterer and betterer!!” (I know there is no such word as betterer but hey what the heck).

    Love Su

Ron writes: Yes, Carol and the boys are delighted by the news as well - not out of the woods yet but it is encouraging! I am feeling betterer already! Take care Ron
