End of Treatment Test Results

It is with a little relief and a great deal of pleasure that I am writing to say I have got the results of my ‘end of treatment’ PCR:

UNDETECTABLE

There was a slight glitch this morning when I saw Mynurse – my ALT’s had gone up to 44. The was done on the day after I returned from Spain. Mynurse ordered another liver function test today and called me soon after I returned home with the results (my hospital blood lab is faster than the tube ride home from the hospital!!) to say my ALT is now 31. So my Spanish diet may not be agreeing with me as much as I had previously thought. But I am relieved to isolate this as a glitch and not have to worry about it as a trend.

I am next due for another test at six months after treatment. For months I have been saying I will have a test at end of treatment, then 3 and 6 months. But Mynurse says this is not their protocol, so I don’t know where I picked this up. So my next PCR test is next April 2006.

As for the rash on my face, Mynurse says she hasn’t seen this previously as a result of medication so I am seeing a doctor at her clinic on Thursday for further examination.

This result was to be expected Ron. You cleared early on and everything has always looked reasonably hopeful.
Freedom from the virus!! I am sure the full impact of what this means will take a ling time to sink in. A celebration in order for the family.
A celebration for the hepc community as well. You can still remain a member of the community but you are no longer entitled to the label hepc.
I am sure you don`t mind.
    Great news.

    Hi Ron,

Congratulations, it is a wonderful feeling to have normal ALTs. I think they are the only thing about me that I am proud to call normal. I did wonder about your 3 month test knowing how strict your nurse is, my nurse chucked one in FOC for me at 14 weeks. At that point I had stabbing pains in my liver, I put them down to repair work underway as I was still virus free at that point.

If your skin problems are anything like mine that Carol’s ointment you gave me helped quite a bit.

    Cheery bye
    Jonathan

    Hi Ron,

Thats fantastic news!! Congratulations!! Hope you begin to feel (more consistantly) better soon and that you (was going to say get your face sorted but that just doesnt sound right)…

I hope that they find out what is causing it and resolve it soon. It couldnt be shingles could it?

    Congratulations Ron,
It’s great to hear that you are undetectable at the end of treatment although slightly disappointing to hear that they are not planning a 3 month check. Both of those results represent such milestones. I certainly did not feel properly safe until I got the 3 month undetectable result.
    Best wishes for your recovery.

    Andy

    Hi Ron,
    Great news about your PCR.
I hope you start feeling the benefits of lessened levels of drugs in the ol bod soon, I’m sure you will, all kinds of stuff starts happening, skin gets softer, itching and headaches gradually disappear. Its a regular voyage of discovery. shipmate.
    Keep happy

Hi RRon, Warm congratulations on your PCR results- onwards and upwards>> Ron I am still having difficulty navigating the site, I have tried unsuccessfully posting to Paul and in setting my own up. Are individual’s Bloggs the ‘Forum’. I hate to come in on a low note but, Ron anyone out there have you heard anything similar to as follows:- I am G1 on wk 28 of 48 wk tx. Virol load undetectable since wk. 12. Last month my usual nurse was on A/L and had a standin who did a 24wk PCR. Today I attended clinic with my usual Nurse who was completely unaware of this - nothing on file! and was totally thrown to find results on computer Virol load 101,000. Nurse said she had only known this to happen once before and in that case there was an explanation. My Nurse is not going to re-run a PCR as requested but, has done an RWA=Virus yes/no result. I have been told that I am entitled to complete 48 wks.of tx. as I have gone past 24wks. Nurse will ring me next week 4th with results. I can only hope there has been a cock-up. The patient, Patient Loll

[…] Like many bloggers, I’ve been rather sparse with my postings over the past couple of days. Spending time with my family over Christmas was really important to me – it’s the first Christmas since my father beat his Hepatitis C infection. […]

It is really nice to hear about the negative results. You should not worry too much about the rash on you face. It may be due to allergic reactions but may not be necessarily with the medications. Hope the rashes fade quickly. All the best. Be in good spirit.
